Learning about surveying & mapping; raising awareness of national territory

August 29, 2020 marked the 17th National Surveying & Mapping Law Day. In an effort to standardize the use of national map and raise the awareness of national territory, the 2020 National Surveying & Mapping Law Day and National Map Awareness Publicity Week themed “Normative use of national map without any mistake” was successfully held at City Exhibition Hall. The activity was co-organized by Ningbo Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, Yinzhou Branch Bureau, the Research Center (City Exhibition Hall), Ningbo Institute of Surveying & Mapping and Remote Sensing Technology, and Ningbo Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation. Wan Jiangbo, deputy director of Ningbo Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, attended the event.

A variety of high-tech surveying and mapping equipment such as UAV, pipeline CCTV inspection system and inertial navigation gyroscope had viewers’ eyes. The guide elaborated on the knowledge of national territory, the appropriate use of Chinese map and the way to tell the wrong, making the viewers get a deeper awareness of Chinese territory and impressing them that no mistake of Chinese territory was tolerated.

The 50 families present watched a video titled Normative Use of National Map Without Any Mistake, followed by a lecture on national territory given by experts from Ningbo Institute of Surveying & Mapping and Remote Sensing Technology. In the question and answer session, kids showed keen interests and behaved actively. A Chinese map puzzle competition was also held to further kids’ knowledge of China’s geographical features as well as sea and land borders. On the top of that, patriotic education was integrated into the novel game. Such enjoyable and educational experiences helped to improve kids’ awareness of national territory, and enhance their national identity and patriotism.

The exhibition would run until September 5. According to its plan, Ningbo Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning was to promote surveying & mapping geographic information service through making the public more aware of national territory and surveying & mapping laws.
